Why Writing Makes a Difference in Everything You Set Out to Accomplish: FAQs

Connie Ragen Green — Why Writing Makes a Difference

I am often asked why I consider writing to be the most important and valuable skill to cultivate and improve. Whether you are an author, an entrepreneur, or a professional in any walk of life, writing makes a difference. I’m going to answer some FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) around this topic here.

Writing Allows You to Share Stories About Who You Are and Where You Came From

Storytelling is an area I am asked about regularly. As a classroom teacher for twenty years I observed firsthand what students were able to achieve once they embraced writing. From Kindergarten through high school age, my students found their voice through their written words. I will never forget the story told by Hanh, my student of Vietnamese heritage. The assignment was to write about someone they admired and she wrote about her father. He had run away from his village and got out of the country, barely escaping with his life. His dream was to come to the United States where he would have the freedom to start a business and raise a family without fear. Hanh shared the intimate details of his struggle and the sacrifices he made so that she and her sister could grow up in a free country.
